Variable Data Mailer

I am designing a variable data direct mail piece that could be sent to two different groups of students on the Pittsburg State University campus. The purpose of the mailer is to persuade students who write and students who produce art to submit their work to PSU’s literary magazine, the Cow Creek Review. The mailer will be 7 x 5 inches, have a .125 bleed, a .25 margin, and will include a vector image and a raster image.

My first variable data direct mail design will be directed toward the target audience of PSU students who write creatively. This includes those who write poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. My second variable data direct mail design will be directed toward PSU students who create art. This includes, but is not limited to, painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, illustration, sculpture, and ceramics.

The call to action for this piece is to encourage students to pick up a submission form from the English department or print one from the web address and submit their work to the Cow Creek Review literary magazine.

I came up with a few thumbnails, spinning ideas for the front and back sides of the mailer.

Below is a rough of the front side of the mailer. My plan is for the text to stay the same, but the photo will alternate depending on which target audience is being addressed.

Below is a rough of the back side of the mailer. Most text, except for the name and address sections will not switch out here. A graphic will be used in the bottom left corner.

Below is a screen grab of my front for the writer directed mailer.

Below is the front for the artist directed mailer.

Below is the back of both directed mailer types.

After the critiques I made a few slight changes to create a better weighted piece.
