Christmas Prints

I am putting together a group of Christmas gift tags to add a little bit of my own spin into my Christmas ensemble this year. There is one piece that I will be working on for this project, but I will be varying the color of the piece three times. I am choosing to do a green, a red and a seafoam color. The Christmas gift tag will have a fold and two specialty cuts. The first cut is a simple hole drill that will allow me to attached the tag to a gift with ribbon. This cut can be easily done at the printer where I will be having the tags printed at, for an additional cost. The second cut is a one inch half circle that allows for the card to tuck into itself when folded. It is a specialty cut and I needed to find out how to get the cut made outside of my print services department. After much looking, I finally found a die-cut set that included a 1/2 circle slit die cut. The set cost under ten dollars and will work perfectly for this project. If I were producing these tags at a mass rate I would not be able to use this die cut set, but for this it works. I've had a terrible time finding information on a half circle die cut, but so far I've discovered that obtaining a die to such a simple cut would be over one hundred dollars.

The target audience for this entire project is a bit different than my past pieces. This project is intended to be seen by friends and family members only and is of a personal nature, but that doesn't me I'm not putting my ability on display. For every cousin that saves my tag I have at least one chance of gaining a customer base. Every person that comes across my work may either want me to create similar projects for him or her or may tell a friend who might be looking for graphic work.  I think every piece put forth is an opportunity to display my ability, regardless of where it is going.

The call to action on this project is enjoyment and appreciation for my work. I want each and every person who receives a piece of this project to enjoy it. I hope that this inspires others to desire such pieces to be made for themselves and I hope that they choose me to create it for them because of this example.

Below are thumbnail sketches, a final draft sketch and photographs of the folding dummy I created for the gift tag piece of the project.

I designed the tags and had them printed. At my printer I can have 3 up on a sheet of cardstock for printing and it costs about one dollar. The printer can score, hole punch and trim out the tag which makes the process of creating these fairly simple and around .33 cents with hand cutting the half circle.
